Thinking about
urban sprawl creates two distinct thoughts in my mind. The first
is the nature of the congested space in a city, and the accompanying
feelings of claustrophobia and lack of personal space. The second
idea is the cycle of a city, from construction to destruction and
back again. The city is an organism, always growing and changing.
New things are always being built, and existing structures are always
being renovated. My visual work is a partial wall of collected bricks,
with the solitary image of a nude human female printed on the surface
of the bricks. The figure could either be emerging from or dissolving
into the bricks, suggesting this cycle of change. My work for "Some
Space Between" is a personal metaphor for the role of humanity living
within the boundaries of a city being torn down and built up at
the same time
