Description:
fathom
is the first product of a collaboration between Vancouver-based
artist Baco Ohama and Chicago-based artist Nate Larson. fathom
consists of two accordion fold books, one by each artist, that
are joined together with a translucent vellum slipcase.
The narratives
explore the links between memory, coincidence, measurement, analysis,
personal history, and the subjective nature of reality.
Book measurements
are based on the wingspans of the artists. Each accordion unfolds
the width of the individual artists' wingspan, from fingertip to
fingertip. Panel widths are the difference between the two wingspans.
Height of the book is the only shared body measurement between Ohama
and Larson, the height of the artists' left ears.
Click
each image for a web-approximation of each artist's half of the
accordion book.
Partially
supported by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council, a State Agency.
Produced during the "Babel, Babble, Rabble: On Language and
Art" thematic residency at the Banff Centre, Banff, Alberta.
